Marqués de la Concordia launches Durius River Café
(April 2008)
Leading Spanish wine brand, Marques de la Concordia, has launched the Durius River Café at its boutique wine estates and hotels throughout Spain.
The Durius River Café is the brainchild of avant-garde two-Michelin starred Spanish chef Sergi Arola, and joins the brands existing wine tourism initiatives – luxury boutique wine hotels, chic spa facilities, state-of-the-art wineries and visitor centres.
Sourcing fresh, local and seasonal produce from the Duero River region, the El Bulli trained Arola has developed a cutting edge, new-wave Spanish menu expertly matched to selected wines from the Marques de la Concordia portfolio. The first Durius River Cafés are due to open this spring at Hacienda Abascal in Ribeira del Duero and Hacienda Zorita in Salamanca, with further Cafés planned for Hacienda Unamuno in Arribes del Duero, Hacienda de Susar in Rioja and Hacienda Vega de la Reina in Rueda.
Commenting on the development, Marques de la Concordia marketing director Crispin Stephens said: “We are delighted to have launched the Durius River Café with one of Spain’s culinary elite - Sergi Arola is a fantastic addition to the Marques de la Concordia wine experience. We remain firmly focused on driving wine tourism in Spain, and delivering the complete Spanish wine experience to the consumer.”
The Marques de la Concordia family of wines includes the eponymous new-wave Rioja brand Marques de la Concordia, the award winning Arribes del Duero brand, Durius, and premium Rueda label Vega de la Reina.
Note to editors:
In addition to the launch of the Durius River Café, the Marques de la Concordia family of wines has also recently opened two Durius All Natural food projects - Hacienda San Nicolas, an organic Jamón ibérico and cheese estate and Burgo de Padua, an olive oil and balsamic vinegar estate in the village of Ledesma.
