With many commentators predicting a tough year ahead, United Wineries, the leading supplier of Spanish wine to the UK off-trade is clear on its strategy to maintain growth in the highly competitive UK market: deliver quality and value to customers, invest in innovation to bring new products to the category and encourage brand loyalty by giving added value at point of purchase to consumers. “These are the keys to continuous growth in a difficult UK market,” says United Wineries managing director Andrés Perez de Herrasti.
This approach will be evident at this year’s Wines from Spain Tasting, where United Wineries will again be taking two stands to highlight both its mainstream brands such as Berberana, Marqués de Monistrol, Marqués de Griñon and Lagunilla, and the more exclusive estate wines from the Marqués de la Concordia Family of Wines.
2010 will be an exciting year for United Wineries. For the very first time Berberana, which has grown by 100% in the last three years, will present its new sparkling Brut and Rosé wines, as well as the new 250ml cans of Pink Dragon and White Dragon, whose bottled versions have had a packaging re-fresh. Berberana is the first wine brand to have a wine loyalty scheme, One Cork One Point, which offers consumers added value and rewards their loyalty whilst also supporting retailers at point of purchase.
The Marqués de la Concordia Family of Wines will present its new Hacienda Abascal wines, a modern and innovative range from the very heart of one of Spain’s most traditional wine regions, Ribera del Duero. In addition, the tasting will see the launch of the on-trade exclusive Hacienda Zorita, VdlT Castilla.
Alongside its award-winning Brut and Rosé Cavas, Marqués de Monistrol, the number two international Cava brand is offering a sneak preview of its new single vineyard Cava, Clos Cusco. This premium blend will be available to taste for the first time.
United Wineries will also be present at the Wines from Spain consumer tasting in the evening, showing a premium selection of wines from the best Spanish regions from the Marqués de la Concordia Family of Wines. It will also show its Durius All Natural Food range – a collection of specialist Spanish food products that come from amidst 250 hectares of natural beauty in the Arribes del Duero National Park. Pata Negra Iberico Ham, ultra-premium cheeses from unpasteurised ewes’ milk, other cured meats such as chorizo and salchichon and extra virgin olive oil, which have been developed in partnership with 2** Michelin Spanish chef Sergi Arola. The Durius All Natural Jamon Iberico was selected by Foods from Spain for serving at the event.
