United Wineries has appointed Invicta UK to manage the sales and distribution of Berberana and Marqués de Monistrol Cava in the UK Impulse channel.
Already the largest supplier of branded Spanish wines to the UK off trade accounting for more than 10% in value, United Wineries believes that it can further broaden its customer base and make Berberana and Marqués de Monistrol even more widely available to consumers.
Berberana is the number two Spanish wine brand in the off trade, selling almost nine bottles every minute and experiencing annual volume and value growth of over 39% and 46% respectively. It is a Top 10 still wine growth brand worth £23m to the category.
Marqués de Monistrol is the number two Cava and the number three sparkling wine in the UK worth £17m to the category and selling more than six bottles every minute. Volumes are growing more than twice as fast as the category, while also enjoying year on year double-digit value growth.
Nathan Last, NAM at United Wineries commented, “The Spanish category in the Impulse channel looks tired with the same old, same old. As a major player within the category we aim to shake things up a bit and add some energy and renewed vitality. It’s also about time the beleaguered independent off licence was given the chance to compete with the grocery sector while making a decent margin.
“After months of careful research we decided on Invicta as they are one of the country’s leading commercial sales agencies. Their market knowledge, experience and reach will drive significant distribution opportunities and their sales team are hand-picked from the Cash & Carry, wholesale and convenience sectors, so they know the Impulse channel inside out. They have also worked with some other market leading wine brands in the past, so it’s a great fit.”
Ian Butcher, Partner of Invicta UK commented, “United Wineries is a major player in the off trade and our appointment marks their commitment to the Impulse sector. We are delighted to have been given this opportunity and look forward to partnering the continued growth and success of the Berberana and Marqués de Monistrol brands in the UK.”
